Addis Ababa is the capital city of Ethiopia and the largest city in the country. It has an estimated population of around 3.4 million people living in the city.
The unemployment rate in Ethiopia went down between 2012 and 2014. In this period it went from 17.5 percent to 17.4 percent of the work force who were unemployed. The highest rate of unemployment the country has ever seen was in 1999 when it reached around 26.4 percent. The country’s record low is 17.4 percent in 2014.
Addis Ababa is home to the Addis Ababa University that was founded in 1950. It has a number of notable alumni that include the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia Melles Zenawi, the President of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki and the judge and first woman opposition political leader Birtukan Mideksa.
