Cisco Qualifications

There are five different levels of certifications Cisco offer, Entry, Associate, Professional, Expert, and Architect. They all, with the exception of Architect, require the completion of one or more theoretical exam.

CCENT is the foundation level, which covers the basics understanding of networks. Students with a CCENT certificate will have the ability to install, manage and troubleshoot a small business network, including the basics of network security.

Associate certificates include CCNA routing and switching which teaches the skills appropriate for small or medium sized business network. CCNA certifies the learner’s knowledge of data centre maintenance, design and the installation of equipment. This course, unlike others, does not require CCENT as a prerequisite.

There is also a professional level certification of the CCNP routing and switching course, which looks at learning new skills and improving existing ones. In addition to CNNA exams, to pass at this level, three separate exams at a professional level must be taken and completed.

To gain the expert qualification, it is required that a written exam and a “lab exam”. The written exam is 100 questions long and must be completed in 2 hours. It acts as a pre-requisite for the lab exam which is a practical assessment of the knowledge and skill the candidate possesses.

To become an architect, the experience and skills of the candidate. They will face a board exam where they will be asked to propose and then defend an architecture solution to some business requirements.
