History of VMware

VMware was founded by Mendel Rosenblum, Diane Greene, Scott Devine, Edouard Bugnion and Edward Wang. Bugnion stayed in the position of CTO and chief architect of VMware until 2005, going on to found Nuova Systems, now a part of Cisco. Staying in stealth mode for the first year of operation, the company publicly launched in 1999 at the DEMO conference. This was the year their first product, VMware Workstation was launched.  In the next five years after their first release, they were to release VMware GSX and ESX, along with Virtual Centre, the VMotion and Virtual SMP technology.
