This is a global framework for managing and governing an organisations IT. It is designed to help balance the need to create value with the requirement for managing risk and the use of resources. The model is made up of principles, models and best practices, and analytical tools. The model will help to add value to an organisations information systems and add trust to them.

COBIT supports an organisations business and IT functions and looks at the needs of an organisations internal and external stakeholders. This method evolved from 4.1 and now takes on board leading-edge practices and approaches from governance and management.
