History of CISM

ISACA, the company that created CISM, was founded in 1967 after a group of people became increasingly critical of the operations of their organisation while working on auditing controls in computer systems. Two years later, they were incorporated into one group as the EDP Auditors Association.

In 1976, the association formed an educational sector in order to commence large research efforts to increase the knowledge of and value rendered to the fields of governance and control of information technology.

In 1994 they became the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, 14 years later dropping their lengthy title and re-branding as ISACA.
