The exam is based on the five process domains and aims to clarify whether candidates have the required knowledge to be a practicing and competent project management professional. The five topics, as covered within the comprehensive course, are centered around:
- Initiating - analytical skills, benefit analysis techniques, the project charter, estimation tools and techniques, and strategic management
- Planning - change management planning, communications planning, contract types, estimation tools, efficiency principles, human resource management, and procurement planning
- Executing - continuous improvement processes, contract management, interdependencies, quality standard assessment tools, vendor management techniques, and statements of work
- Monitoring and Controlling - performance and process analysis techniques, risk identification, and quality validation
- Closing - archiving practices, organisational compliance, close-out procedures, reviewing techniques, and transition planning
