Does Murdoch Need Agile Project Management?
Today the news corporation has announced that it is planning on separating its publishing, media and entertainment businesses and turning them into singular, publically traded companies. The firm’s board decided on this idea unanimously after the news corporation had decided to create the split earlier this week.
This move has allowed the company to witness over a 39% increase in broadcasting over BskyB (the parent company of sky news). Despite there being a large amount of negative media attention on the failure of the News Corp during the News of the World scandal which is still being debated today, they have made a decision which will hopefully save their company name. Thus Murdoch who is the chairman of this corporation and also infamous for a term named ‘phone hacking’ has announced that he was desperate to change the construction of the company and wanted to change it into two publically traded companies. (Let’s face it; to make him a bit more dosh)
However, this new prospect has caused fears for BskyB as they are worried that this split will allow the News Corp to do what they have always desired to do; to take over BskyB, and therefore cost them millions.
However, I argue this will only be possible if the News Corp bring in a new intervention in order to change the way they work; a new intervention such as that of Agile Project Management. Agile is used across the globe in some of the most famous companies and is growing in popularity due to its gigantic success rate. Agile project management can only be used by the certain individuals who uphold the agile certification and have attended the agile training course…and obviously passed. By adopting Agile within this company, Murdoch will be able to achieve the truly great. For example, Agile looks after the development of any projects as well as managing any IT systems. This is a massive responsibility which can be taken and controlled by the drop of a hat if agile project management is adopted.
If the News Corp can accomplish this task they then plan to work alongside or take over (you choose which term you would like to use) firms such as; the Fox Broadcasting network, The Times, The Sun, The New York Post…and the list goes on.
However, there have been criticisms by many regarding Murdoch. Many have argued that he simply is not ‘fit enough’ to run such a multinational company due to what happened when he was in charge previously; a scandal which is still yet to be resolved.
However, I argue that anything is possible with the use of Agile Project Management; even Rupert Murdoch taking over the world of media; without breaking any laws.
