Does Facebook Need Some ITIL?
Facebook; the most well-known social media website on the planet.
ITIL; the most well-known IT service management on the planet.
Is this just coincidence or would these 2 go together like bread and butter?
Well, Facebook is in need of a little help as it was announced this week that it has over 83 million Facebook pages and users which are fake. It is thought that duplicate profiles make up around 4.7% of the users who use this social media website and 2.4% of users were described as ‘undesirable’. This is a problem for their reputation as a reputable company as many individuals do trust this website. Therefore something needs to be done in order to prevent these fake’s getting access to the site and other people.
This number of fakes came out into the pubic during a cause for concern regarding the amount of marketing there is on the website. Facebook believe their marketing is under scrutiny due to the amount of fake profiles which are present. Previously there was a massive hype and respect for the amount of ‘likes’ a profile or article would receive from Facebook, however, now this has come to mean very little due to ‘undesirable’ fake profiles which makes up this website. This could potentially be a massive problem for the future of Facebook.
The future of Facebook is in their own hands. The lack of marketing and advertising which will be caused through this outburst could be detrimental to them financially. Not only this by from a study, it was found that most of the ‘likes’ on advertisements on the site were actually from fake users. This, therefore is also harming companies who also market and advertise their company on the site as it is not actually bringing them business.
However, it is thought that Facebook is now looking into the concerns which have been raised in the media.
It is vital for any website or company who is in the public eye, especially those who specialise in social media to have a good reputation and is trusted by its customers and users. The minute the trust is gone; so is the business. It’s as simple as that.
Therefore Facebook needs to come up with some drastic action. Therefore the use of ITIL; Information Technology Infrastructure Library could help and save their socks. ITIL training is used all over the world in order to help the IT services and create a structure and a framework which works for the company and brings in the money. This method could also work for Facebook. ITIL V3 is modern and up to date with the latest software updates; just as Facebook.
The truth is; this could be a match made in heaven.
